ENGLISH PORTFOLIO

Bad mother's handbook.

 SUMMARY OF THE FILM

The movie is about motherhood.
Karen, Charlotte's mother, discovers that she's adopted and decides to find her biological mother. From that moment she has a bad relationship with Nan, her adoptive mother.
Days pass and Charlotte gets pregnant and Karen finds her biologic mother.
Days after Karen finds out that Charlotte is pregnant she gets very angry because Charlotte is making the same mistakes that when she was young.
Karen decides to travel to London where her biological mother lives to meet her and to ask her what did happen when she was a baby, but when she arrives and talks with her she discovers that her biologic mother had been in jail for the death of her sister because of undernourishment because their parents didn't fed her.
When Karen knows that, she says to her mother that she's a monster, but her mother doesn't regret anything because she says she has already paid for what she did. At that moment Karen feels so bad with herself because she had been so fool with Nan, and Nan is the mother who really loves her.
When Karen leaves her biologic mother's house her phone starts to ring. It is the hospital.
They say to Karen that Charlotte is giving birth so she takes a plane and goes to the hospital.
A few hours later Charlotte gives birth and born a boy called Will.
After that Nan sufferes a brain hemorrage and remains unconscious for a few days, but she recovered and they return to be a family.

PERSONAL OPINION

I think the film is very real because of the pregnancy and the film shows you all the problems that have a normal family.
I liked the film because of that and all the roles were good excluding the first Charlotte's boyfriend that is so irresponsible, but in real life fool boys exist, so I think  prevention is better than cure.

COMPOSITION - WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE FAMOUS?

I have read the article of the newspaper asking if teenagers want to be famous.
The results are really interesting, because most teenagers don't want to be famous, and it's weird because everybody seems like they want to be a celebrity.

I think it all depends if I would like to be famous.
Being famous has a lot of good things and a lot of bad things.
In my opinion, being famous is bad, because you don't have a private life and everybody disturbs you and you can't do anything in public because everybody is looking at you.

However, being famous has good things, for example, you have a lot of money for doing whatever you want.
If I were famous I would travel around the world and help poor people in Africa.
Also you have lots of fans that love you, you have a bodyguard for your security, and you can buy lots of things.

Finally, If I were famous, I would be a singer or an actor. I think it's better than being a football player.

COMPOSITION- LETTER TO CARLA

Dear Carla,

You certainly have a big problem!
Firstly, I think that you should be more responsible to make your parents change their minds.
If you aren't responsible your parents would never let you go out with your friends.

I also think that your parents should meet and talk to your friends to considerate their decision.

Finally, if I were you I should talk to them and ask them why they are afraid and ask them for an oportunity because you'll not spend all your life at home.
Just let them know that you're responsible and they'll let you go out!

I hope that my advice helps you.

Good luck, and be responsible!

DIALOGUE - GIVING ADVICE

Doctor House: Hello!
Lucia: Hello, Doctor House!
Doctor House: Hey, what's up?
Lucia: I don't know what to buy to my mum's birthday. What should I do?
Doctor House: Well... If I were you, I'd buy her something special.
Lucia: Like what?
Doctor House: I don't know... What does she like?
Lucia: She likes The Rolling Stones.
Doctor House: Well, you should buy her tickets for the concert of The Rolling Stones.
Lucia: Yes, If I could, I'd buy her that tickets, but the problem is that I don't have enough money to buy her that amazing present.
Doctor House: Oh, that's a very big problem... Let's look for something cheap. You should buy her a CD, for example.
Lucia: Okay, this time I should buy a CD, and when I earn some more money for the tickets, I'd buy her. She's gonna be so happy with the present!
Doctor House: I know. Problem solved?
Lucia: Yes, thanks doctor!

Description of a picture

This picture is about San Fermín.It's a comical photo of Kukuxumusu.
Kukuxumusu was created in the Basque Country, by Mikel Urmeneta.
In the picture we can see a lot of bulls and some people running.
In the top left hand corner there's a bull and a cow watching the show that the bulls and people are doing.
At the top, we can see a bull surprised by all the show.
In the top right hand corner of the picture there's a bull whirling in the air.
Under the surprised bull , in the middle of the photo there's a scared bull that is crying  , and there's a lot of people running and trying to catch the bulls.
In the bottom left hand corner there's a cow running together with other bulls. It's the only cow that is running.
I can guess that this picture is a rejection and a manifest against the San Fermín in Spain, and I'm agree with this rejection because in San Fermín people just hit the bulls and make them suffer and bleed only for enjoy themselves.
The manifest is obvious, because in the picture we can see that bulls are chasing people, and in real life it's just the opposite.

MY CHRISTMAS SONG

All I Want For Christmas Is You- Mariah Carey

Lyrics:

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is...
You

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I don't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeers click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
Ooh baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me...

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is...
You

All I want for Christmas is you... baby (repeat and fade)

INVICTUS

Summary of the plot:

The movie starts when Nelson Mandela leaves the jail in 1990.

He presented to president for South Africa, and people voted him, so he became the president.

Then, he tried to change some bad things from South Africa, because white people had  very good conditions for live, and black people hadn't good conditions as white people. This thing was called apartheid.

First, he decided to motivate the Springbox, the rugby team of South Africa, to win the world cup of rugby, because they were loosing always, and with this , clear apartheid trought rugby.

Finally, the Springbox won the world cup in 1995 and apartheid disapears from South Africa.

Personal opinion

The movie tells you all what it happened in the past with Nelson Mandela and this thing is so great because new generations have to know what this man did, and how much is he brave and honest, and all he did for the equal of black and white people.

I think if teachers don't tell us about him, the most of the students wouldn't know anything about this great man.

I liked so much this movie.

DESCRIPTION OF A PLACE-Amsterdam

I choose this country because I visited it last year and I like it a lot.
Amsterdam is located in the north of Europe and there are 1,211,503 in habitants.
People of Amsterdam are wonderful, smiling, kind and, of course nervous and hurried because of their jobs.
There is a lot of people, most of them take their bicycles to go working everyday.
The atmosphere of Amsterdam is very clean because most of the people don't use a car.
Amsterdam is a little bit noisy and it smells like roses and water.
You can visit the historic canals, the red light district, Anne Frank House, cannabis coffee shops , the van gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, etc.
